WXStar - Starlink Service Plans
WXStar uses very little data — weather products are compact by nature, and a 500 kbps connection is more than sufficient to receive everything in real time. This means you almost certainly do not need one of the expensive aviation plans.
Starlink's Standby mode (also known as Basic Connectivity; about $5/month, up to 500 kbps) is the recommended plan for WXStar. Travel and Roam plans also work well. The full aviation plans ($250/month and up) are only worth considering if you also need in-cabin internet for passengers.
WXStar controls the power supply of your Starlink Mini through an integrated switch and
manages the connection lifecycle automatically. Rather than maintaining a permanent connection,
WXStar periodically reconnects the Starlink Mini — fetching a fresh weather data update
each time. As a result, any Starlink plan that is not locked to a fixed location works
with WXStar, including Basic Connectivity and Travel/Roam plans.
The exception is ocean coverage: if you fly beyond 12 nautical miles offshore and need
weather data there, you will need a plan with ocean coverage (Aviation 450 MPH or a Jet plan).
